Did you know that the practical joking element of April Fools Day was most likely started in France? In France (or French cultures, like in French Canada) the person being fooled is referred to as a poisson d'avril, or April fish. This originally had something to do with the zodiac, and the French traditionally celebrated April Fools Day by placing dead fish on the backs of their friends. (No, I'm not making this up!)

Johnny: Good workout! Now I don't need to go for a jog.

Ripp: Another challenger, hey? You'll be sorry, Phi...

Ophelia: Oh, we'll see about that!

Ripp: *gets pummeled*

Ripp: You call that a fish slap?! You hit like a girl, Phi!

Ophelia: So do you!

Ripp: You'll pay for that remark!

Ophelia: Bring it on!

Ripp: It's easy to hit such a nice, round target!

Ophelia: Hey! Watch it!

Ripp: *thinking* Such a sweet, sweet target...

I swear the more I see Ripp drooling for Phi, the more I want you to make him happy - in a very bad way. It's making me think back to when he was doing that chick in Phi's bed and how maybe it wasn't just an "accident" that he wound up in that bed, perhaps he was playing out some fantasy of his own. I love that there may be one woman out there that Ripp truly desires, but at the same time the whole Johnny factor makes me want to smack Ripp - possibly with a slimy dead fish. ;)

That's a good observation about Ripp's choice of location for that session. I'm sure there may have been something to it, and he was very upset about having her find him in there, wasn't he? Ophelia really might be exactly what Ripp needs, but yes, there is the Johnny factor to consider. Could trouble be brewing?

There is seriously SO much to explore when it comes to this trio. It's amazing how you're able to show us all this stuff bubbling underneath while maintaining their solid friendship on the surface.

YES, people DO eat tacos with fish in them. My friend, Carl, is a big fan (and *snicker* he's gay, so I can't resist implying the dirty definition when he orders them).

I'm glad you find it interesting. That whole scenario and relationship is very interesting for me to think about and write. And it keeps changing, ever so slightly, all the time. I think I know what will happen, but I can never say for sure.

I think that the strong friendship at the core is what keeps them stable. That equilibrium is delicate, but they all consider their friendship very important, and that would keep them from deliberately doing something to harm it.

Ripp's strategy thus far has been denial, but that's not working very well for him anymore, so now he's really starting to struggle with the situation. He wants to be with Ophelia, but it's not worth losing Johnny over. He'd love to be able to have it both ways, I'm sure, but how realistic is that?

You've reminded me of a funny anecedote from my SO now. He was a set painter for a theatre festival one summer, and one of his fellow painters was this hippy-type, and a vegetarian. One day she said something about eating fish, and in a beautiful Freudian slip of the tongue, he remarked, "So you're one of those fish eating lesbians?" Everyone nearly died laughing, and they all called her a vag-etarian for the rest of the summer. *snort*
