Strangetown extras: Ripp is obsessed with his own mortality

Now, I know that I've been known to InSIM Ripp into a variety of ailments, and I've even killed him a couple of times to get the shots I needed for the story, but is that any reason for him to become fixated on death? I'm starting to worry about his mental health, just a little. Check out the fear that he rolled during a recent session at the Grunt house...

Hmmm. Does this happen often? I've never seen it before. I mean, it seems reasonable to fear your own death, and maybe a little obvious, but does Ripp have some reason to think that he might actually die? Is it because of the recent trend of deaths in the Grunt family? This doesn't seem very healthy to me.

The other wants/fears are typical. He's been fairly obsessed with becoming friends with both Frances and Nervous, based on his recent interactions with them, and he always rolls wants to flirt with people (that one is a cheerleader - a favourite booty call of his), and to buy various instruments. The only typical want that's missing is "woohoo in bed". Yeah, it's always there and it's always "in bed" (I think he just likes to pass out afterwards, since he's so awesomely lazy). Also, Ripp's not really a freshman. He's a senior. (InSIMing is to blame again.) Don't get the idea that they'll never, ever graduate from LFT. *snicker* I may be slow, but I'm not THAT slow.

Anyway, I thought that it was pretty amusing, so I thought I'd share.

Hehe, that is so very Ripp-like!

I heard that sims fear their own deaths after playing with the handheld game for too much.

Yeah, I know. The poor boy... he should probably be in therapy.

Well, Ripp does play with the handheld game a lot, but he wasn't doing it just before this happened. He was playing with the fish, though... hmmm.

[identity profile] music-simbol.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I've never seen that before. It's always fear of other sims, not themselves. Maybe he's afraid to die, because he just realized that he hasn't been with every woman in Strangetown, and he'd hate to deprive anyone that opportunity? Just a guess. :P

And recent interactions with Frances and Nervous? Oo la la!

[identity profile] dothesmustle.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I think another side-effect of playing the handheld too much makes the sim fall in love with themselves. That would be extremely Ripp-esque.

Serves him right if those fish figure out a way to get back at him for his "Mr. Shark" antics!

I agree. I would love to see him roll that want. It's very Ripp. I wonder if anyone has ever had a sim roll the want to woohoo with themself? That would be the great. Nothing like a little self love...

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
*snicker* He was doing the Mr. Shark thing nonstop too. He loves it. He's the only one of the Grunts who'll do it, since it depends on how playful the sim is. Tank and Buck are both as serious as they come.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's probably as good a guess as any. He has so many things (and people) left to do before he dies.

*snicker* Don't get too excited. These are friendly interactions we're talking about. Just from the scenes with Tank and Frances and the time they spent at the Specter estate. But Ripp is DEAD serious about becoming their friend. Those wants never go away. He's always busting out the autonomous friendly hugs with them too, though they often run away (Nervous did recently accept one, though, which was cute). Poor Ripp. He just wants to be friends.

[identity profile] music-simbol.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, reminds me of that saying "Places to go, things to see, people to do...." except, he would wouldn't go back and exchange words. :P

Who wouldn't love a hug from Ripp? Well, as long as he bathed recently. And Ripp just loves people! All kinds of people! Sure, he prefers people of the female gender, but malkes are cool too!

(I hope you got a shot of that Nervous/Ripp hug!)

[identity profile] franwi.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHA! *psst* ...I think he's on to you!

[identity profile] simgarooop.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 05:14 am (UTC)(link)

He he... I was actually going to comment on how come Ripp is still on his freshman year before I read your comments :).

Well, that fear is not so crazy, keeping in mind what he's gone through, right? Poor guy...

[identity profile] kin-thalas.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
I´ve never seen this before. But it´s so Ripp.

[identity profile] pixelcurious.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that seems appropriate given the disappearance of his dad, and the fire at the Beaker mansion, etc. I would start to fear for my life, too. Even if only on a low level.

It's very cute that he wants to be friends with Frances and Nervous. He needs to quit saying asshole things to Frances, though, if he really wants that. It's not very friendly behavior. ;)

There is a possibility you have corrupted memories, I suppose. Do you ever get the conversation bubble that looks like a bunch of vertical lines? That's a sign of corrupted memories, which I believe is passed by gossiping. Eventually it can make your game screw up, I'm told. There's some way to fix it, though... I don't remember where we found the fix but Kirk took care of mine for me, so the answer is out there (probably at MATY)

[identity profile] indigoleo.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I've ever seen that one either.
I did have a sim roll up an interesting death one once though.
I had the father fixing the microwave (he only had like 6 mech points) and he got electrocuted. His teenage son was there and saw it. The father survived but the son almost immediately rolled up the want to be saved from death!

There have been a lot of suspicious things happening in Strangetown, so I guess it would be normal to be a little nervous about it.

The fact that Ripp is interested in being Frances' friend probably shows that he learned his lesson at the party, which I think he did, though we haven't seen them interact a whole lot since then. I don't think you'll see him being quite that much of an asshole anymore.

I don't have the vertical lines in gossip about death, but the only death gossip I have seen so far has been about Olive or Ophelia. It's their portrait, followed by a tombstone, followed by the dead person (a normal portrait, or at least the odd portraits that I've been getting - that might be another issue). Based on that, I don't think that this is happening to me.

The solution to the corrupted memories thing seems to be the "nocorruptdeath" hack from MATY, but this just prevents future problems. It doesn't fix any that have already formed, but it seems that SimPE can correct those. The manual explains how to purge them. I'll have to do that if any evidence of this surfaces.

I've heard of other people getting these randomly, so maybe it's just more of glitch thing. To be safe, I will check his memories when I play again.

I do know that I recently moved the graves from the Specter estate, and the Grunts all received fresh memories of their mother's death (where before they didn't have any memory of it at all). Maybe that had something to do with it too.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That seems like a more normal reaction in the wants slot, especially for a knowledge sim. Tank rolled the want to defeat the grim reaper after the General died. Those types of things seem to be normal.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you're right. He wouldn't correct it. I can see someone asking him, "Don't you mean..." And he's just be like, "No, that's what I meant to say." *snicker*

Ripp just likes to touch people. That's the conclusion that I've come to. He prefers the more intimate sort of touching, but he also just wants to put his hands on people in any way that he can. (And let's hope he washed those too. *snicker* Ripp might end up being a major carrier of disease.)

I did get a shot of the Nervous/Ripp hug, but it will be quite some time before something like that would make it into the story, given the way that Nervous is. I'll get to it in the story, but Nervous thinks that Ripp is a bit "much" and he makes him nervous (pun!). Maybe I will share it in the outtakes.

Okay, so I'm not the only one. You haven't had any trouble with corrupted death memories, have you? There is some mention of them in the comments below...

I've seen an aging family sim roll the fear of becoming an unmarried elder. That was interesting and appropriate, I think.

I think so too. It would make sense for Ripp to be thinking about death, given everything that has happened lately.

I know! Scary. Sometimes I swear that they have me figured out.

I think it's very Ripp-like. All of his wants are about flirting and having fun, but underneath it all, he's afraid of dying. That feels like exactly how he would deal with this stuff to me.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
:D That's why I figured I should mention it, since people would likely glance over at that. College actually went by too quickly for me with J/R/O, so I have actually been adding some days to them with InSIM, to keep them for graduating too soon. I still have to play the other college kids to graduation, but I definitely don't relate to the sentiment that college is too long. For the purposes of this story, it's definitely too short.

I agree. I think this is very reflective of where Ripp's mental state probably is as a character. I think he should take Ophelia up on her offer to talk about it, since it's not good bottle it up like that.

Well, at least it's not in his wants section! My Stella keeps rolling wants for being struck by lightning or being saved from death. Those knowlege Sims (or in her case, aliens) are really freaky sometimes! It is rather fitting, even if it is a glitch though.

Well the only other thing I think it might be was if he has met the other Ripps that are roaming around the place lol.

How come it says he's a freshman? Is that a glitch too?
I was so tired of having selfsim in college so I made her graduate as fast as I could and then made Ripp drop out. He was an art major, which I didnt want him to become anyway. And well, I was really excited to get him into his new house anyway. It's so him and I can't wait to show it off.

Hehe, that`s hilarious! Looks to me like he`s traumatized. ;)

I`ve had Sims with wants to befriend themselves but that just tops it all.

I`ve heard that it`s not advised to move all the tombstones from the Specter household *at once*. Many messed up character files in there.

I once did it and not only the Grunt kids got memories of their mother`s death (and could be because of it, Lyla`s character file is horribly corrupted) but Ophelia got a memory of her aunt`s latest husband`s death!
