Strangetown extras: Ripp is obsessed with his own mortality

Now, I know that I've been known to InSIM Ripp into a variety of ailments, and I've even killed him a couple of times to get the shots I needed for the story, but is that any reason for him to become fixated on death? I'm starting to worry about his mental health, just a little. Check out the fear that he rolled during a recent session at the Grunt house...

Hmmm. Does this happen often? I've never seen it before. I mean, it seems reasonable to fear your own death, and maybe a little obvious, but does Ripp have some reason to think that he might actually die? Is it because of the recent trend of deaths in the Grunt family? This doesn't seem very healthy to me.

The other wants/fears are typical. He's been fairly obsessed with becoming friends with both Frances and Nervous, based on his recent interactions with them, and he always rolls wants to flirt with people (that one is a cheerleader - a favourite booty call of his), and to buy various instruments. The only typical want that's missing is "woohoo in bed". Yeah, it's always there and it's always "in bed" (I think he just likes to pass out afterwards, since he's so awesomely lazy). Also, Ripp's not really a freshman. He's a senior. (InSIMing is to blame again.) Don't get the idea that they'll never, ever graduate from LFT. *snicker* I may be slow, but I'm not THAT slow.

Anyway, I thought that it was pretty amusing, so I thought I'd share.

Like another comment noted, "he's on to you."

"Please don't off me AGAIN. It's giving me nightmares!"

Yes, you do have a good point there. A want would be a very bad sign. I do enjoy those crazy knowledge sims wants, though. They just want to know what it feels like to die... what's so weird about that? *snicker*

There are a couple of other Ripps in the greater Strangetown area, but they are different ages. I don't even really need them, now that I have InSIM, but they're still there. And the Ripp in the fear panel is definitely the same Ripp that has the fear. Oh, Ripp...

No, that was caused by InSIMing too. I had turned him back to a teen for a while for some photos, but I turned him back for this screencap. Maybe the InSIMing had something to do with it. I have no idea.

I can't wait to see how you've decorated his house.

Oh, really? Ooops. It's a bit late for that now. What can happen? I moved a couple separately, but then I just moved the rest all at once. And the fresh memories of the deaths were happening even when I moved the graves separately.

I have had a couple of memories pop up like that, but is that really harmful in any way, I wonder? I can't really see much harm in it. (And shouldn't Ophelia have had that memory anyway? I think she would have been there when it happened, according to the chronology of the other memories. The Grunts also SHOULD have a memory of their mother's death.)

Definitely traumatized. Being friends with yourself is funny too. That's the first step to a healthy relationship with someone else, right? Love yourself first.

Totally. It's like he has a memory of those deaths, even though I didn't save. Those sims are smarter than we think they are. (I wonder is this anything like the plot of that Sims movie they were making?)

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha... yep I've seen that fear when my sims are sick or have just recently been sick. I guess they're telling me they don't want me to let them die of disease!

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I had Pascal Curious roll the fear of being old and never married once. Because of that I *almost* forgave him for the havoc he caused in my Strangetown asylum (he can be a mean one when you leave him to his own devices!)

Oh, really? Interesting. Maybe Ripp actually did get food poisoning when he was eating out of the garbage! *snort* Hint for Ripp: If you don't want to die, stop eating garbage.

Pascal can be mean? I'm not surprised. It probably relates to his distaste for slobs and his inability to take a joke. Those serious sims don't like pranks and such, so they get pissed off.

That's such a sad little fear that they get. I saw it when I was playing Kaylynn Langerak as a single mother. She was happy enough with just her children wants, but then that huge fear rolled around. I felt bad about it.

Yeah, me too. In a game like this, so many things can (and do) go wrong. I just back up frequently and hope for the best.

And I think I will add that little hack that prevents corrupted memories, just in case.

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep that was a huge part of it. He'd cleaned up one too many puddles I suppose, lol. It always did bug me how that made the sims furious with each other like that. I mean, I get irritated at my hubby when he messes up the house too but I don't want to go pummel him!

Here's my asylum if you ever get a chance. I'm thinking about posting it on LJ as well (smile) Or I might just do another one. It was insanely fun to play!

Yep, they want to be abducted, become a werewolf, they just want to experience EVERYTHING!

Ah, so there are going to be a scene with him as a teen again, like a flashback? Interesting.

I really really want to show it off now! I think I will have a little extras thing posted next that has nothing to do with the main story because I have other things I want to show as well.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I needed to show the Grunts in their younger forms again for a little something I'm working on. I was considering it as an actual chapter, but it might be more of a separate thing, though still related to the story.

I'd be interesting in seeing that, if you post it.

Yeah, the furious thing always seemed like a bit too much to me.

Oh, cool! I'll go take a look.

Ripp likes touching people, huh? Why am I not surprised? :P When you think about it, thou, perhaps he likes physical contact with others, when he know he may not be able to get that close to them emotionally. Or that could just be my psychology studies talking. :)

You'd probably need to get to like chapter 50 before there was any real reason for Nervous and Ripp to hug in the story. Even if you can't get it into the story, outtakes is 100% cool. I just wanna see it! ^_^

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
*snort* That sims movie.

I doubt it would be even half as interesting as the few off-hand comments about "they know" that are posted here.

[identity profile] xel-squirgle-ox.livejournal.com 2008-03-15 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It's up! :)

I fear for my sanity, because I totally read the subject line as "Ripp is obsessed with his own MORALITY"... and then I was honestly confused by the wants panel screenshot. Mortality makes so much more sense!

... In my defense, it's been a loooong day in the hot, hot sun. ^_^;

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-17 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
That's funny. I'm trying to imagine what the post would have been about if that was the title. His conflicting emotions over being such a slut? *snicker* I get the feeling that he's probably not too hung up on the morals of it all, though you never know...

(Don't worry. We've all had those days. :P I could use a nice day in the hot sun right about now... it's so cold here!)

Do you know when that movie was supposed to be released? It's one of those things that I will probably have to make myself watch, just out of curiosity, but then I will find myself overwhelmed by how bad it was.

[identity profile] cindyanne1.livejournal.com 2008-03-17 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well my Ripp is certainly conflicted these days thanks to dual aspirations (cackle). Currently he has a want to have two loves at once and have a baby, *and* a fear of being caught cheating... and having a baby.

Poor guy is just so confused, lol.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-17 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
You made him romance/family? That's definitely what I'm giving him too. Poor Ripp. (But it's so fitting.)

Those wants/fears all seem to fit with the way I view his character. I have no doubt that if he were going to have a child, he'd be happy about it on some level, but also frightened to death. And Ripp might ask you why he can't have a family and also have two loves at once... at least the way I see him. ;) Conventions? Who needs conventions?

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-03-17 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I assumed it withered on the vine. I haven't heard anything about it since that post in the sims 2 community.

I'd watch it too, just for the what the hell factor (but I'd rent it, I couldn't go to the theater, too expensive and "shameful").

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-03-17 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, really? I guess they might have realized that the concept has already been done a number of times in other movies.

I would have watched it on video too. (No wait... I'd get out my plumbob headgear and go to the theatre! Simmer pride! *snicker*)

[identity profile] madame-ugly.livejournal.com 2008-03-17 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
*SNORT* But as soon as your fun meter got full, you'd get up from your seat and stand next to someone, hoping they'd go outside and play catch with you.

Or you'd wander behind the counter of the snack bar and set soemthing on fire.
