Drabble+: Regret

To put it in context, this inner monologue would be taking place around the time of the beginning of Chapter Twenty-Eight. It doesn't really offer any new revelations, but maybe states what we should already know a little more clearly. (Really, I'm mostly just in it for the image.)

Regrets? Yeah, I have them. I have plenty.

I regret things I've done, and things I haven't done, and things I did the wrong way, but mostly it's the things I didn't do. Things I didn't say. Going too far, saying too much, that can leave you feeling like shit, but at least you were honest. You were wide open. What more can you offer than that?

Given the choice, I'll always go too far, say too much, every time.

And well, it's scary, going there. There's some scary shit hidden in there, when you let it out. And it's scary to see it in someone else. It's fucking terrifying.

It's scary, but it's better than not knowing. It's better than being alone. The weight can be a lot to carry, but it's easier than carry it all on your own, you know?

I'll never regret that.

It's dark. But I can relate. I have those inner places of scary shit too.

I just hope the picture of Ophelia is metaphorical. I recognize the reference, of course... drowned Ophelia with flowers being a fairly popular art subject... I'm hoping yours is an homage and not foreshadowing. It would be so sad if your Ophelia didn't survive her demons.

Just for fun, even though I'm sure you're familiar with them here are some other Ophelias drowning (or not, in one case) in other pools, starting with the famous Pre-Raphaelite one.

Thank you for sharing those. I hadn't seen them all. My Ophelia in the water is certainly an homage (I love the Pre-Raphaelites, and that image is one of my favourites), but I won't say much more than that for now. I love how her sim backstory has that connection to her namesake, with her parents both drowning.

I always find Ophelia(Hamlet one) tidbits fascinating. It's so interesting how many people automatically think that she's committed suicide because of the gravedigger scene. The actual account of her death by Gertrude describes her as falling accidentally into the river and laughing maniacally at her billowing skirts which held her up for a time. Suddenly, the water shifts, causing the soaked skirts to pull her under. To say that she committed suicide is to assume that the queen lied to protect Ophelia's immortal soul. Yet, Phi doesn't get the standard burial rites of any Christian, but simply those of a virgin because her death is questionable.

I really enjoyed the homage pic of Phi, BTW.
