You're certainly not the only one that thought that Buck swung that way. Most of the characters in the story did too, or else didn't know. But no, he likes girls. Or, more accurately, he likes "girl"... just one girl. He's all about Jill.
Having had a couple of (fairly minor) ghostly encounters in the past, I have to agree with you. Whenever something becomes remotely supernatural, I want to get out of there as quickly as possible (I agree on the spiders too - they freak me out).
Yes, Nervous should have no trouble bouncing back now, even though it might take him some time. His odds have greatly improved from when he was lying on the ground with the harsh sun beating down on him. He's safely in bed and Pascal will see to it that he gets the necessities of life.
