That's a very good observation. You'd think it would come up eventually, wouldn't you? Maybe it will at some point.

I think that some of them, like Buck, are at least thinking it. Tank isn't likely to go there. He's only seeing things in black or white right now. Ripp hasn't made the mental leap there yet, though he's obviously wondering about it. I think he came close to thinking it back with Stella. He was rationalizing that she wasn't a man, but then acknowledged that she wasn't really a woman either. What he's thinking right now is more that it was just a random thing, and that maybe it was nothing more than that. That's possible. People can experiment without any lasting impact on their identity. Other times... not so much.

Anyway... I'm rambling, but my point is that the Grunts aren't quite ready to go there yet. They're looking at it as if you're either gay or you're not gay - meaning straight (though "not gay" could also mean bi).

What Frances and Edie were saying was essentially that, though. They didn't use the word, but that's what they were implying by saying that Ripp wasn't straight (Frances) but was mostly straight (Edie). They were arguing for different placements along the scale. The grey area that they are talking about can be called bisexuality, sure, but they didn't happen to use that word in this particular conversation.
