That perfume thing is a reference to those Demeter perfumes that were a popular a while back. They really do have a scent called Grass, and a lot of other things based on real-life things.
I can't say much about your scented oils. I use a lot of those crunchy granola natural products to this day, since have an allergy (to parabens) that affects my cosmetic use. I use a lot of things that have essential oils in them, though I've tried to move away from things that contain patchouli, for the same reason you've given. That, and people tend to either love it or hate it, and I hate the thought of repulsing half the people I encounter.

That's a good point. I was thinking that too, and I do have another outfit in mind for Frances later on, but I might leave him in that awkward in-between state for a while. It seems typical to reinvent yourself only halfway, especially if you're someone like Frances. I see him going through a bit of an experimental phase with his clothes a little later.
