Strangetown extras: Remember that time we all crammed into the photo booth together?

Here's a little something that I've been working on for my next update. It's a photo booth photo for Johnny's bedroom, which I've created myself and will add to the game by recolouring a painting with SimPE. I had to do it this way because you can't stuff three sims into a photo booth, which is a real shame, since people do it all of the time in real life (I know that I have, many times). I considered posting a WCIF post to the Sims 2 community, but then I figured that if someone had created a hack that cool, I would have heard about it by now. So, using Jaydee's Photo Poses Animation Box, I took the matter into my own hands.

I'm so pleased with that arched eyebrow shot of Johnny. He's so not amused by Ripp's antics. It's just perfect.

All I have to do now is update SimPE and do the recolour. It's been updated for K&B Stuff, but I can't seem to extract the files into the program folder that I created for it on my computer. I followed the instructions to the letter, but my system will not allow them to be placed in the folder (yes, the computer must take all of the blame for this, not me). I don't know if it's some security setting, or what, but I'll gladly take suggestions, if you have any. I run Vista, if it makes any difference.

Yeah, I intended it to seem like Ripp was inching his way to the front. :P And Johnny isn't impressed, since he's supposed to be in front. It seems like he might be trying to nudge Ripp out of the way in the last shot.

The Brow. *snicker* They're finely manicured brows too. Johnny's brows seem like the plucked brows, even though they're set to the thick brows.

I agree. They had good features for it, in different ways.

Good excuse, Ripp. :P But I'm sure he would do it just for a laugh.

I had a boss who we called "The Brow" for that reason. One of my co-workers drew a comic and whenever Jeff appeared, he was just a floating, arched eyebrow. :D

Thanks. I'm glad you like the extras, since I love doing them. Seriously, I have to restrain myself from posting too many. It's a lot of fun to do them.

Yeah, there are so many things that you can read into the last one. It's funny.

[identity profile] indigoleo.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
it would be very cool if the personality of the sim determined which of these poses they took, like I was doing.
Oh, yes, because I could just see that! Ripp acting like a goof and Johnny rolling his eyes or something. That would be very cool.

[identity profile] imsothenetgirl.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
How cute is that! I love Ripp's expression in the third panel and the fourth panel in general is cracking me up!

[identity profile] treesahquiche.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems that Ripp's wondering what Phi whispered in Johnny's ear, too. He looks so adorably baffled!

Ripp looks baffled a lot of the time. It's so cute.

(See my slightly related icon. I made it recently and wanted to show it off. Ripp reads with his finger on the lines. :P)

I think it's because it implies a lot of the dynamic and underlying tension of the characters. You can read a lot into it. And it's pretty funny too. I'm glad you liked it.

[identity profile] treesahquiche.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! He probably sounds out each word slowly, too. "Wuh-wuh-Once ... uh-uh-puh-puh-on a tih-ai-muh -- time ..."

(I love Ripp SO. MUCH.)

That last picture says it all to me.

Johnny: "Ripp, that better be Phi's hand..."

Wow. You totally win the caption contest. That's perfect.

Totally. Ophelia's going for a kiss and then Johnny notices that Ripp is looking at him too. *snicker*

It's not just you. Ripp is a space cadet (did he hit the bubble blower before they took the photo, maybe?). He's a total goofball too. It makes sense that he'd be the silliest of the three.

[identity profile] swhedonberry.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I must say that the link is really helpful as I wanted to put together a shot like this myself. Ironically, I needed it for Johnny and a couple of others. He's getting old in my story and I need some nostalgia. You have saved me the task of doing mass searching. Thank you!!

PS How do you get your sims so close for pix like this? Mine tend to go horizontal and floaty when I try to get them close.

I couldn't resist. I made it into an icon. I hope you don't mind me stealing your line for this purpose.

I'm glad the link was helpful to you. I often find useful things the same way. It's good to spread the word about the good stuff. (And very cool that you'll be using it for Johnny too. I love Johnny. I love him a little more every day, I think.)

I use the "boolProp snapObjectsToGrid false" cheat to move them without the restriction of the grid. It's pretty essential to a lot of my shots (like Ripp tucking in Ophelia in the last chapter). I only just caught on to that cheat recently, but now I use it all of the time. You can still get that floaty thing happening if you get too close, but the key is coming at it from different angles and trying different things. Move the other sim instead. Things like that.

You may use the line anytime, especially for your always delightful avatars!! I adore Johnny Smith. He was one of those characters in my game who started out as a blah and just grew on me completely. And I absolutely love the way you portray him.

The grid cheat is one of my favs, too. I still wish that there was an "anti-floaty" cheat, though!! Anyhoo, glad you liked the line.

It's so odd that you said that, since I had a nearly identical experience with Johnny. My initial reaction to him was actually pretty indifferent. I think he sneaks up on you as a character. Now I just adore him. I'm glad you like the way I've characterized him. He was one of the harder characters for me to get a feel for, but I think he's finally coming into his own in the story.

Yes, a cheat to remove that overlapping floaty problem would be great.

It's a great line. *grin*

*snicker* I hope he's not quite that bad, since he is in college. I can't imagine that he has much time for reading, when he could be watching TV instead. (And I'm sure it's very hard to read if you've been hitting the bubble blower.)

Me too... me too. *loves*

*snicker* Yeah, it looks like they're thinking of trying it, anyway. (And check out the great caption that swhedonberry came up with for it, in my icon.)

Thanks. It was fun to do.

You should definitely grab that hack, and the other EP animation hacks, if you don't already have them. They're so useful.

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2008-04-30 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, now that's a different interpretation of it. Maybe Ripp was trying to kiss Phi behind his back. :P He does look suspicious about something. (Check out the fun caption that swhedonberry suggested for it - in my icon.)

Aww, I'm glad to hear you say that. I love Johnny.

Yeah, they're cute, aren't they? That animation box is a lot of fun.

Mmph ROFL. Perfect!

Jaydee and boolprop snapobjectstogrid false are my heroes when it comes to storytelling!! :P

It still takes a lot of patience... trying out everything those ani-boxes do and seeing how they will work with what you're wanting to show, but geez... I don't think I could tell a story these days without them!

I have all of them. Go Jaydee!!

And this photobooth picture is perfect! The icon you made from it is adorable too!
