Extras: Veronaville Previews

I'm glad I went back to my plans to do the Veronaville chapter. I remember now why I wanted to do it in the first place, aside from the character development and plot usefulness. I have a lot of fun playing around with my faerie territories, and I'm fairly inspired to continue with the next part of chapter 35. I spent some time this morning shooting images for it, so an update could be happening sooner than you (and I) thought.

I have a couple of pics that probably won't end up in the chapter (at least not in the same way), but they do show some of my mythology for Faerie, which I touched on in my installment of the first Round Robin Legacy. Also, it shows that I get carried away with sim breeding.








Some faery love action. Oh yeah!

I mentioned the breeding issues that the faeries have in a previous chapter. Basically, the males have all started to become sterile (they're a little like calico cats that way, I guess). Because of this, the ones that still have some kick to their sperm are pretty dedicated to furthering the species. Sure, they can interbreed with sims, but they prefer not to, because it dilutes their, shall we say, "abilities."

My main man for faery breeding is Cale Mustardseed, who is actually Cale Peet. Yes, aside from my drunk-downloading of dothesmustle 's Nathan Peet (oh, the shame!), I also grabbed her Cale, and the lovely lady is Candace Peaseblossom (aka Candace Piper). Cale being one of the main breeding studs of the faeries is, of course, a joke. It's a wink and a nod to his status as the official founder of the first founder challenge at legacy_writers. He's already seen a LOT of action. :P His genetics will be seen in a number of the adopted children of the Summerdreams.




I've also been busy breeding plantsims.

That's Daisy, getting her plantbaby on. I switch out the ideal plantsim quite frequently, just to get lots of variety in the plantbabies.




I'm also breeding werewolves. They're one of the other creatures that are somewhat faery in their make-up. I consider the plantsims and werewolves to be sort of cousin species of the true faeries. They probably branched off way back in the early days of their evolution.

This sim, Lou Garou, was bred from some sims I downloaded from LL30 Sims and then mashed together in CAS with the pacifier. I know the skin came from there, anyway (she's always a wolf, even by day). I'm using her to breed up a pack of werewolf sims in Faerie (mostly with Cale as the father—like I said, he gets around). I wish I could give proper credit to the LL30 Sims I used to breed some of these faeries (I used some others to create toddlers with Cale), but I added them to the game ages ago and forgot to record it, and now that the site is down and I have no way of solving the mystery. If you recognize any of the genetics, please let me know, okay?

I'm glad it's interesting to you, and thanks for the positive feedback on the photos. I was really trying to take shots that did not show any glimpse of the road and other neighborhood details, since Faerie isn't meant to be in the same realm as the other world.

I think some of the creators have definitely set up their own sites for sim creations. Most of them have livejournals, so if you know their names, you can probably hunt them down.

I don't use an uberhood for Strangetown, Here We Come. I started with the original Strangetown and have been working with all the original hoods separately. I've been extracting the sims I need to "travel" to other hoods, which works better for me in the sense that there isn't too much crossover in characters. Just the ones I want.

If I were starting over, I think I would go with an uberhood, though. I used one for my turn at the Round Robin Legacy, and I enjoyed the ability to mix and match the storylines more freely. It also gives you the potential for random happenings between the characters of different hoods. Right now, I'm limited to finding commonalities in the stories myself when pairing up characters. I like that, but it does limit that random factor that I like so much.

I would definitely recommend meetme2theriver's uberhood (and you can find it posted for download on her journal). She did a lot of work to clean it up and fix memories, so it would simplify things that way.

If I was starting fresh, I would remove all of the default hoods and place that uberhood in my game as my one Maxis neighborhood. As far as I know, it wouldn't slow things down at all.
