Strangetown: Ripp's new hair. I did it myself!
Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions to my hair mesh problem, and particularly those who gave me a nudge to open up Bodyshop and give it a whirl myself.
music_simbol suggested this mesh, which was more or less the same basic shape as the Maxis ponytail, but about half as long. Then she insisted that switching up the textures would be super easy to do, and it really was! Recolouring isn't hard, especially when it is a basic cut and paste job like this one was (and changing the hue would be easy too, I imagine). I could do that again, no problem. Thanks, Music Simbol! You rock.
Want to see how it looks?

Ripp: Yessir! Looks about the same from the front, but how about the back?

Ripp: Yeah, that's more like it. Still slightly longer than it would be, but pretty darn close. (And it's longer than a fucking dork knob, thankyouverymuch!)

Ripp: Damn, I look good. Oh yeah... and the hair looks pretty fucking sweet too. If, you know, I actually wanted to tidy up for some reason. Pffft. Whatever.

As you can see, the mesh isn't perfect (some of the animation is a little wonky too - revealing other oddities), but I can easily work around that when taking the photos. I'm so pleased that this worked out.
But why would Ripp want or need to put his hair up? Hmmm... Is he trying to give off a good impression? But why?
The answer will be revealed in the next chapter.

It was super easy. It should be easy to adjust colours in Photoshop (or in my case, GIMP). Thanks for the nudge to do this. I'll have to try some clothes and maybe some other stuff too.
*snort* Do you think I would reveal the entire makeover ahead of time? Where's the fun in that? He does get a shave, and he dresses up nice too. (I know - crazy!) He has a good reason for wanting to make a good impression. It's for something that he feels is very important, and you'll see why.

Hmmm, the only thing I can think of is band related thing. Course, if that's not it, it's not like you couldn't think up another random event that no one saw coming.
I call all hair ties scrunchies. It's just something my whole family does. Obviously, Ripp wouldn't use anything bright pink and sparkly, but scrunchie, hair tie, tomato, tomahto...

It might be a surprise. ;) It's something that I've kind of neglected to deal with, but I really need to before too much time passes in the story.
I just see a large fabric covered hair tie when I hear scrunchie. Like I wore as a girl in the 80's with a bad perm. That's why I laughed.
But yeah... tomato, tomahto, or even tomado, as I'm sure it sounds when I say it.

Oh, too many clues...

Congrats on your first re texture! It looks great! I haven't explored hair much yet though I've begun to venture into clothing a bit. That's scary enough for me :)

I tried recolouring some clothing after I did this too, and it went pretty well. I just need to figure out how to change the hue in one area of the texture and not others. pretty simple stuff. I probably just need to look at a GIMP tutorial for that.
