Thank you. For better or worse, I try to get into the heads of the characters, and it's not always pretty in there. I'm glad that you have enjoyed it so far. (I can get like that when I'm reading something too. It's fun to immerse yourself. I'm glad that you found this worthy of doing that with.)

Frances is a great character. One of the true hidden gems that Maxis provided. I think that he is going to have a lot of alternate realities played out for him in other games (I already know of two that were inspired by his interaction with the Grunts in this story). He does really beg for a happy ending, and you can probably guess that I ultimately intend to give him one.

Douchebaggery is a good word. *snicker* Perfect for daily use in my life. I see a lot of douchebaggery going on.

I'm with you. If someone has their shit together, they don't hold my attention the same way a well-meaning mess would. Ripp is one of my favourite characters because he usually means well, but he has almost no idea what to do about it. He's has plenty of issues (Mommy as well as Daddy, I might add *snicker*), and he really needs to find some balance and purpose in his life. But he has time to figure it out. If you're going to fall into ruin, college is the time to do it. There's hope for him to figure it all out before it's too late. Though he'll always be a bit sleazy... why not? ;) Not everyone can be squeaky clean.

(As a sidenote, I also just know a lot of people like that in my own life. Maybe I just run with the wrong crowd *snicker*, but I know plenty of people that are far worse messes than Ripp is in this story. And in my family too. And they don't all change. But even the ones that never seem to learn or grow up have redeeming qualities, and they are just such intense characters. But there is always the fear that the worst of them will burn them selves up one day, and you just hope that they will grow up and get past all the flailing, you know?)

I'm getting the next chapter pieced together, at least in my head. I'm going to give some more attention to the folks back in Strangetown, including the great disappearing Lazlo. Poor guy got sidelined in a big way, which is a shame.
