Strangetown Extras: Ripp is no longer a slut?

Wow.

I don't know what to say.

Ripp: What?! How DARE you, you harlot! What are you trying to do?

Three Lakes lady: Kiss you up the arm?

Ripp: Ummm, no.

Three Lakes lady: Not even just one?

That looks like a no, dear. (He's so cute when he's haughty.)

Seriously, I have NEVER seen this happen in my game. It amuses me greatly.

Could Ripp really be that serious about Ophelia? I mean, she's quite sexy in that bikini, but this is just surprising game behaviour. Maybe he just doesn't want any distractions from watching Phi get all wet back there?

Three Lakes dude: Good job, Ripp! I really admire you.

Ripp: Umm, okay. Sure.

That guy actually admires Ripp in the sense that he blows hearts for him. Sames goes for the teen male that's log rolling with Phi. The ACR randomizer seems to have made a lot of gay males in Three Lakes, and Ripp is going over very well there.

And yes, this does mean that I'm (finally) working on the next update again. I hope to get something up pretty soon. I've decided to split the last part into two sections, not because it's long, but because it will be easier for me (yes, I'm buying more time - real life has been busy lately).

Have a nice day, all! ^_^

I'm going to keep it how it is, but I'll keep that in mind for later. There was one or two Sims who were gay, but I needed them to be straight for story purposes. I made them bi as a compromise :) I had plans for Kent, just to marry Bianca Monty and have some kids, but that was all so it isn't really a big deal. I guess now they'll be like Lucy and Beau were for you.

Seriously I sometimes wish there was some sort of "coming out" action. It would be interesting. And the only religion my Sims conform to is the religion of doing what I tell them to do. :P

My Kent and Bianca are like my Beau and Lucy too, except they stay together and live in the same flat. Kent gets alien pregnant and now they have their own little non-traditional family. Bianca eventually falls for Mitch Indy, and he gets worked into the mix. I like playing their lot quite a bit.

That would be great. I suppose it's left out for the same reason the existence of homosexuality in the game is kept hidden in the default game. They don't want to upset those who have a problem with it (I can where they're coming from, from a money-grabbing perspective, but hopefully human rights will win out one day in the sim world).

Religion is one I'm happy without, maybe because I'm not a very religious person (though I grew up with it). I make indirect reference to it in my story (and use "God" in a the context of cursing or surprise, but only because a substitution is very distraction), but I wouldn't want it to be included in the game.

[identity profile] simsinthecity.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I imagine Kent might've been molded by the ways of his family. He has three sisters, all of whom managed to find men who would take their last name. Consort is the same; his "maiden name" (IDK what it's called for a male) is Thebe. Then again, not everyone becomes gay for power.

I don't quite know how I feel about homosexuality, but my philosophy in the game is this: The Sims 2 is a life simulator. Homosexuality happens in real life. Thus, The Sims 2 must have homosexual people.

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, actually, the Capp Line is matrilneal- heirship is passed down through the females only, and the men HAVE to take their last names. It's not by choice. :P

I think the trouble would be finding a man who would want to submit to that.

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe. But they're CAPPS. I'm sure men throw themselves into it to be part of a prestigious, srs bsns, rich family like that.

Want for money > want for "dignity through keeping one's name"

Good point.

Or...

As I like to think of it, maybe it's a cultural difference and that's just how it is for everyone in West Veronaville (the other side of the river obviously operates differently). Then it's not something that the men have to submit to at all. It's just how it is there. In my mind, the Summerdreams follow this too, with Titania as the head of the household, and Puck planning to take Hermia's name. It would be yet another point of (cultural, this time) contention between the Montys and the Capps if Juliet and Romeo marry. I can't remember if Romeo is heir to the Monty "throne" (aka llama ranch) or not, but Juliet is definitely the rightful heir of her branch of the Capp family.

It's funny how you mention losing dignity in this context, since that's how it has been (and still is, in many cases) for women in our culture when entering into marriage. Does the reversal make this more obvious?

I really like how Veronaville turned that whole process on its head in the Capp family. (Well, I WOULD, right? :P Feminist alert!)

That's not how her name is spelled, is it? What's it in the game? Julliete? I can't remember.

Joshy is the smartiest! :D

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
MY SOUL!!!!! Where have you been?!

[identity profile] leskuh.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I spent basically all of Thursday packing. Friday we moved me and my sister home, which is pretty much an all day thing and I cleaned my room all yesterday. I'm actually still cleaning. I'm such a pack rat and I've got all this JUNK in my room and no place to go with it.

Whatchu been up to?

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow. I'm a packrat too, I have notebooks from YEARS ago. I save everything. D:

Nothing much, soul child. I'm typing up post now about all the things I want to do and then I'm going to go play TS2. It's been a while since I played.

It was because of you mentioning it that I first noticed that, since I hadn't really examined the family trees so much. Good for you for noticing!

That's such a cool detail, don't you think?

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I love it. I noticed when I was doing the research for EPL. I find it so fascinating that the men would go through with it, too, so I assume it's for the money. Or for love, whatever. :P

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
You really think so? It seems like it would be a cultural thing to me, and the men would just do it out of traditional, like the reverse of our culture.

But I suppose that would still apply to anyone from outside of Veronaville, or even the other side of the river (like Romeo - excellent example).

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of floundered on it for a while, but I agreed with you somewhere up there. I do think that's just the way it is over there. It does seem like a very cultural thing right? I read some interesting things about how people see women as "dominant" or "ball busters" when they either don't change their last names or add hyphens to theirs. Apparently, society hasn't evolved all that much.

Well, Kent is gay by default. The only undeniable gay sim in main hoods ;) I've always felt his relationship with Bianca is more like a close friendship, with a touch of platonic crush on her side lol

Also have to say I complete agree with s_t about sexuality in the game. Love how open and natural it is! :) Not sure if I'd like a 'coming out' action on that sense, because IMO, in sim word, would be unnecessary. (the difference between married and joined always bugs me, though, but I try to think it was done only to make the game more socially acceptable *sigh* unfortunately RL ain't like sim world)

[identity profile] simsinthecity.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
He is? I didn't even know that. That's what I was thinking of doing for their relationship, now that I've had this little revelation.

There's a hack here: http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php?topic=14.0 if you don't like the marriage/join union discrepancy. It makes all marriages ... well, marriages.

Funny thing, actually, with Kent. While I was doing all my Maxis makeovers yesterday, I got into the Capps (Regan, Cornwall and Kent) to get stats. I read Kent's bio, which was all "black sheep dadadah" and I thought, "Oh, and I suppose he'll be gay, too." I just had to LOL when it came true.

So far he's still the only gay Sim in the megahood, but I still have most of BD Cove and all of BW Village to go through. RB Hills is kind of disturbing — not even a single bi playable. All of them are straight!

[identity profile] aledstrange.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
In Belladonna Cove, Jason Cleveland is too, tho he's married with a child. Its a very interesting family, imo. But true I don't know any on RH, DV or Bluewater. (I tend to check gender prefs in all sims as soon I play a new premade household rofl)

There aren't in Pleasantview either, but at least the base game has its surprises in ST and VV <3

(and thanks for the link, I do have it :) but meant in general, wish we didn't need a *hack* for it)

[identity profile] simsinthecity.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds interesting. I'll have to play with that a little :D

I remade a few "classic" townies like Marsha Bruenig and Meadow Thayer as well. My Kaylynn Langerak, Crystal Vu and Marsha are all bi. I believe Kaylynn might've been gay but I had to compromise so she could be in love with Dan and Don.

Aside from that, only one Sim that Maxis actually made is bi as well: Ariel Capp, Kent's niece, the youngest of Goneril and Albany.

(Ah, I see. Who knows what kind of shit EAxis would get if they allowed gay marriage?)

[identity profile] simsinthecity.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
(Forgot to mention Titania Summerdream. She's bi as well)

[identity profile] strange-tomato.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Does she start the game that way? I know it wouldn't be ACR's doing, because she's already in love (I think). I know I consider her (and Oberon) bisexual, but that's most just because of my own story for them.

[identity profile] simsinthecity.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
ACR "protects" anyone from changing preferences if they have a crush or higher relationship with anyone. She must've been that way, then.

[identity profile] aledstrange.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Tatiana is Bi by default too, as you say also is Ariel, but *that* always sounds a bit weird to me, I mean she's a toddler O_0
(And can't forget Circe at STown, she's bi as well :P)
