Strangetown Extras: Ripp is no longer a slut?

Wow.

I don't know what to say.

Ripp: What?! How DARE you, you harlot! What are you trying to do?

Three Lakes lady: Kiss you up the arm?

Ripp: Ummm, no.

Three Lakes lady: Not even just one?

That looks like a no, dear. (He's so cute when he's haughty.)

Seriously, I have NEVER seen this happen in my game. It amuses me greatly.

Could Ripp really be that serious about Ophelia? I mean, she's quite sexy in that bikini, but this is just surprising game behaviour. Maybe he just doesn't want any distractions from watching Phi get all wet back there?

Three Lakes dude: Good job, Ripp! I really admire you.

Ripp: Umm, okay. Sure.

That guy actually admires Ripp in the sense that he blows hearts for him. Sames goes for the teen male that's log rolling with Phi. The ACR randomizer seems to have made a lot of gay males in Three Lakes, and Ripp is going over very well there.

And yes, this does mean that I'm (finally) working on the next update again. I hope to get something up pretty soon. I've decided to split the last part into two sections, not because it's long, but because it will be easier for me (yes, I'm buying more time - real life has been busy lately).

Have a nice day, all! ^_^

I spent basically all of Thursday packing. Friday we moved me and my sister home, which is pretty much an all day thing and I cleaned my room all yesterday. I'm actually still cleaning. I'm such a pack rat and I've got all this JUNK in my room and no place to go with it.

Whatchu been up to?

[identity profile] smjoshsims.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow. I'm a packrat too, I have notebooks from YEARS ago. I save everything. D:

Nothing much, soul child. I'm typing up post now about all the things I want to do and then I'm going to go play TS2. It's been a while since I played.

Want for money > want for "dignity through keeping one's name"

Good point.

Or...

As I like to think of it, maybe it's a cultural difference and that's just how it is for everyone in West Veronaville (the other side of the river obviously operates differently). Then it's not something that the men have to submit to at all. It's just how it is there. In my mind, the Summerdreams follow this too, with Titania as the head of the household, and Puck planning to take Hermia's name. It would be yet another point of (cultural, this time) contention between the Montys and the Capps if Juliet and Romeo marry. I can't remember if Romeo is heir to the Monty "throne" (aka llama ranch) or not, but Juliet is definitely the rightful heir of her branch of the Capp family.

It's funny how you mention losing dignity in this context, since that's how it has been (and still is, in many cases) for women in our culture when entering into marriage. Does the reversal make this more obvious?

I really like how Veronaville turned that whole process on its head in the Capp family. (Well, I WOULD, right? :P Feminist alert!)

That's not how her name is spelled, is it? What's it in the game? Julliete? I can't remember.

[identity profile] simsinthecity.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's Juliette.

[identity profile] simsinthecity.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I JUST HAD A REVELATION.

You know the play, Romeo & Juliet, right? Well, at one point, Juliette tells Romeo to "deny [his] family, renounce [his] name."

It's a Capp thing! Wow, for a bunch of people we all hate, EAxis isn't too bad about coming up with these things.

(Forgot to mention Titania Summerdream. She's bi as well)

I wonder, is there a hack out there that would let a couple keep their last names but still be married?

[identity profile] meetme2theriver.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, what did you say about Ripp? I was distracted by that awesome Three Lakes dude with the awesome beard.

But yeah, can't blame Ripp for being more into wet bikini Phi rather than Mrs. Lumberjack there. (Does she sleep all night and work all day, I wonder? And cut down trees, and wear high heels, etc...)

YOU DID! :D

That has to be why they did it that way. It makes perfect sense. I still like to think of it as being cultural, since they've set up the hood in two sections - these micro-climates that resemble (Shakespeare's) England and Spain/Italy (or some other Mediterranean country - I'm not sure) respectively. It makes more sense that the Capps just doing their own thing to me, though that would work too. It's open to interpretation, I suppose.

Veronaville is quite clever. It's not a literal interpretation of Shakespeare's work, but there's a lot of "wink and nod" stuff in there. I really like it.

Not that I know of. There's one that let's you choose which name to take, but that's it. I really wish someone would create one that lets you enter the surname for each spouse individually at marriage, leaving it open for separate, combined, and new names.

Coincidentally, my SO and I are currently "fighting" to have our names combined in marriage, but without an hyphen. It seems to go beyond what they accept as a marriage-related change (meaning we'd have to legally change our names - not a good option). With same sex marriage being legal in Canada, I think they need to open their minds to other options. The time has come.

He's in LUV! All he needs is his Phi and his Johnny! :D

Yay for Monty Python references!

Funny, I never tried ACR, to be honest I was a bit scared of what it would do... I'm getting curious about it though.

...that awesome Three Lakes dude with the awesome beard.

And EYEBROWS. Don't forget the awesome eyebrows.

Three Lakes ladies mean business, okay. Just 'cause they don't show any skin, doesn't mean they aren't hiding sexiness inside their overalls. Ripp should know that.

You should try ACR. I was nervous about it too, but now I feel silly for waiting so long. The worst it can do is stir things up. It's not like a couple of surprise babies and out of the blue relationships are going to ruin my game (or even my story).

It's a lot of fun. I wouldn't have these saucy lumberjacks propositioning Ripp without it.

It was because of you mentioning it that I first noticed that, since I hadn't really examined the family trees so much. Good for you for noticing!

That's such a cool detail, don't you think?

I'm with you on the fluid thing. We have to be a little wary of thinking of it as a choice, since that's been used against homosexuals for years, when really we are all born with our sexuality. That said, I think it's a little short-sighted to think it's so binary. I think many people have the capacity to be attracted to more than one sex, but they don't explore that because they become part of a monogamous relationship (and become functionally gay or straight purely by omission of other options) or they don't even think to explore their sexuality in that way.

Also, sometimes I wonder how many straight people are actually bisexual, but they don't want to explore that side of themselves out of fear. If you have two options and one is easier and more socially accepted/rewarded... well, it's not hard to see why you'd just go with that if you like it anyway, right?

And they say it isn't possible to change a man. They are obviously not Ophelia. ;)

Just kidding. Ripp changed himself.

(He's so sassy. Look at him strut!)

Does she start the game that way? I know it wouldn't be ACR's doing, because she's already in love (I think). I know I consider her (and Oberon) bisexual, but that's most just because of my own story for them.
